ALCS Game 5 - Awesomeness at Fenway

10.16.08 - Boston, Mass. - Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

Doesn't get old. I hate superlatives, but this was the best thing I've ever seen in person. I haven't seen a lot in person, but I have seen a few Beanpots, a Red Auerbach Tribute at the Garden and ALCS Game 7 in 2007 against the Indians. Be that as it may, this was awesome. Megan and I had the Sox for dead, legit printing photos for their lockers tomorrow as they pack up to go home, and then, MAGIC!

Alright, enough. Awesome. I'll say it again and again until 8 pm on Saturday.

Awesome,

Will

You gotta believe. Also, You'll notice these photos are in reverse. Sorry to ruin the suspense.
Celebrate good times.
Drew rounds first after hitting the game winning walk-off.
Drew hits the game-winner.
Fumble! Misplay by Pena at first leads to Youkilis on second/winning run.
OMG! J.D. Drew just hit a home run to make it 7-6.
Rally caps.
Groundskeepers foto. At this point, I was cleaning up for the last four innings of me with the Boston Red Sox. I'm ok with the results though.
9 and 9, OMG!

ALCS Games 3 and 4

10.13-14.08 - Boston, Mass. - Sox fans will agree that there isn't a whole lot here. However, I did get to shoot with a 600mm lens (biggest in the biz) from over the Green Monster on Monday night. Led to some cool shots of the Moon and a nice image from a play at the plate. Last night was worse, but did nab that great one of Lowrie hitting (a Sox player hit? I know).

Until the next game,

Will

D700 + 600mm f/4 + ALCS = Red Sox Photo is Awesome
Jon Lester, however, was not. Go figure the only Rays fan on the Monster caught Upton's second inning the home run.
Carl Crawford is not faster than Jacoby Ellsbury's throw.
La luna.
The destroya!
Game 4, Lowrie hits.
Aybar thrown out at first.
Smiling Rays fan.
Javy gets low.
Not sure about this. Funny moment though.

Red Sox Practice

10.12.08 - Boston, Mass. - I worked my first shift at the Herald on Sunday (hooray!) and was sent to Red Sox practice (surprise). Nabbed this cool shot of Alex Cora fielding the ball in the afternoon sun which ran in color inside the sport section. Below are a few of the photos from practice and a feature from the people sleeping outside for tickets to Game 3.

Jon Lester practices in the outfield.
Alex Cora, Josh Beckett and Dustin Pedroia watch batting practice.

North Dakota v. UMass

10.11.08 - Boston, Mass. - North Dakota almost came up with a win against UMass-Amherst, but fell short for the second night in a row, losing 3-2. I was able to freelance the game through the Grand Forks Herald and the top photo appeared in their Sunday edition.

UMass forward Michael Marcou celebrates scoring the first goal of the game.
NoDak forward Eric Martens ties the game at 1-1.
Mid-ice hit.
UMass forward Brett Watson reaches for the puck.

Harvard v. Cornell

10.11.08 - Cambridge, Mass. - Harvard killed Cornell 38-17 at home on Saturday. I shot it with Brooks for fun more than anything else, but managed to get some good shots out of it. Good crowd, good bands, fun times.

-Will

Harvard celebrates their last touchdown, a pass caught by tight end Jason Miller (middle with arm raised).
Almost a great catch by Harvard receiver Levi Richards. The pass was broken up by linebacker Chris Costello.
Close up tackle.
Beautiful fall day in New England.
Harvard band's student conductor Laura Garvin "jumps on it."
Another almost catch.

Cornell receiver Ricky Hawkins gets upended by Harvard cornerback Derrick Barker.
Facemask...

Boston University v. North Dakota

10.10.08 - The rout was on as No. 8 BU leveled No. 5 North Dakota 5-1 in their first game of the season at the 2008 NCAA Icebreaker Invitational at Agganis Arena. It was good to be back in "The Greek" (Bill Simmonsesque attempt at a nickname, might catch on, let's see), and even better to see BU play well.

It was a bad weekend for NoDak who lost to UMass 3-2 the following night to start off 0-2.

-Will

ND's Andrew Kozak lays one on BU defenseman Colby Cohen.
A slip up.
Forward Jason Lawerence celebrates after scoring.
A scuffle. NoDak has had some legendary fights in its history. Nothing of note this weekend though.

Madison Park v. Boston English

10.10.08 - Boston, Mass. - Madison Park High School (red team) in Roxbury hosted Boston English and beat them 20-0 to move to 3-2 on the season. I was trying out with the Herald, shooting alongside John Wilcox. Madison Park ran over the smaller Boston English squad quite literally, but English's spread offense attack lead to my best shot of the assignment, a 30 yard reception at the end of the 1st half.

Said reception. Cedric Miles shows his ups as he leaps to grab to the pass.
English defender tries to wrap up Madison Park running back Darrell Hudson.
English QB Alex Villenueva was hustled the entire time and fumbled the ball on a drive in the second quarter. He was able to recover though.

Playwright Anne Washburn

10.8.08 - Cambridge, Mass. - Portraits of playwright Anne Washburn. Her play, The Communist Dracula Pageant, is being performed at the Zero Arrow Theatre in Cambridge from Oct. 18-Nov. 9. It's a satire about how the Romanian myth (Dracula) played into the politics of the 1974 and 1989 revolutions.

That probably didn't do it justice, but I promise it sounds cool, so check it out.

Anne watches rehearsal. She has stayed very involved in the first performance of the work and regularly collaborates with director and friend Anne Kauffman.

ALDS Game 4 - Sox v. Angels

10.6.08 - Boston, Mass. - The Sox bounced back to squeak out a victory in Game 4 of the Angels, much to the dismay of the best team in the regular season. Shooting from the outfield third base position, I didn't get much, but here's a few shots.

Tagged out on a squeeze play in the eighth.
Bay breaks his bat on a lead off double in the ninth. The rally begins.
Out of order, jubi.
Scoisia protests the call at third because he believed Varitek dropped the ball. Apparently, he did, but the ground can't cause a fumble in baseball, so the Sox were saved.
Papelbon shares the bubbly with the faithful.
